How to use this tool
Enter two nonnegative whole-number parts to simplify a ratio.
Enter a new total to divide it in that proportion. At least one part must be greater than zero.
Simplified ratio divides both parts by their greatest common divisor
Worked example
2:3 · simplified ratio
Fixed example using the settings below. Monetary examples use USD; dates and times use their stated reference values. This example stays unchanged when you edit your calculation.
Example inputs
- First part: 12
- Second part: 18
- New total to divide: 100
Method illustration: 12:18 simplifies to 2:3; a total of 100 divides into 40 and 60.
Assumptions and limits
- Parts must be nonnegative whole numbers and cannot both be zero.
