How to use this tool
Enter whole numbers, fractions such as 3/4, or mixed numbers such as 1 1/2.
Choose the operation and read both the simplified fraction and mixed-number form. A minus sign applies to the whole mixed number.
a/b + c/d = (ad + bc) / bd; simplify by the greatest common divisor
Worked example
13/6 · simplified fraction
Fixed example using the settings below. Monetary examples use USD; dates and times use their stated reference values. This example stays unchanged when you edit your calculation.
Example inputs
- First fraction: 1 1/2
- Operation: Add (+)
- Second fraction: 2/3
Method illustration: 1 1/2 + 2/3 = 3/2 + 2/3 = 13/6 = 2 1/6.
Assumptions and limits
- Fraction arithmetic uses exact integers before simplification. Decimal output is an approximation.
- A zero denominator is invalid, and division by a zero-valued fraction is undefined. A leading minus sign applies to the whole mixed number.
