How to use this tool
Enter both parents' adult heights and choose the published prediction convention.
Read the result as a broad family-height midpoint. It cannot assess a child's growth or account for pubertal timing.
Mid-parental estimate = (mother + father ± 12.7 cm) / 2
Worked example
178.9 cm · mid-parental height estimate
Fixed example using the settings below. Monetary examples use USD; dates and times use their stated reference values. This example stays unchanged when you edit your calculation.
Example inputs
- Mother's height (cm): 165
- Father's height (cm): 180
- Published prediction convention: Boy convention (+12.7 cm)
Method illustration: Parents at 165 and 180 cm give a midpoint near 178.85 cm using the boy convention.
Assumptions and limits
- A broad genetic midpoint, not an individual growth forecast. The ±10.16 cm band is illustrative population variation, not a guaranteed outcome.
- Does not use the child's age, current height, pubertal timing or bone age, and cannot assess a growth disorder. Discuss growth concerns with a pediatric clinician.
