How to use this tool
Choose an ordinary or weighted average and enter the values to include.
Weighted entries pair each value with a positive weight. Check the count and total weight to catch an omitted entry.
Mean = sum / count; weighted mean = Σ(value × weight) / Σ(weights)
Worked example
20 · arithmetic mean
Fixed example using the settings below. Monetary examples use USD; dates and times use their stated reference values. This example stays unchanged when you edit your calculation.
Example inputs
- Calculation: Mean, median, mode and range
- Values: 10, 20, 20, 30
Method illustration: 10, 20, 20, 30 has mean 20, median 20, mode 20 and range 20.
Assumptions and limits
- All weights must be positive. Weights need not add to 100.
- When every value occurs once there is no mode. All tied modes are reported. Up to 1,000 values are supported.
Check or report a result
Check the units, selected calculation and assumptions first. Compare the fixed example above with your inputs to identify what changed.
Report a calculation issue with the page address, hypothetical inputs, result displayed and result expected. Do not include passwords, bank details or other private information.
