How to use this tool
Enter the original pixel dimensions and desired new width.
Check the rounded new height and, when printing, the dimensions at your selected pixels per inch. Resolution does not create image detail.
New height = new width × original height / original width
Worked example
1280 × 720 px · resized dimensions
Fixed example using the settings below. Monetary examples use USD; dates and times use their stated reference values. This example stays unchanged when you edit your calculation.
Example inputs
- Original width (px): 1920
- Original height (px): 1080
- New width (px): 1280
- Print resolution (pixels/inch): 300
Method illustration: 1,920×1,080 has ratio 16:9; resizing to width 1,280 gives height 720.
Assumptions and limits
- Pixel dimensions must be whole numbers. Output height rounds to the nearest pixel. DPI describes print density, not additional image detail.
Check or report a result
Check the units, selected calculation and assumptions first. Compare the fixed example above with your inputs to identify what changed.
