Choose the calculator that matches your loan

Sumyard helps you compare a monthly commitment with the interest paid over the full loan term. Both calculators assume a fixed interest rate and regular monthly payments. The starting amounts and rates are examples, not offers.

Mortgage calculator and payment guide

Start with a home price and percentage down payment. Add annual property tax and insurance to estimate the monthly total. The mortgage guide walks through a $450,000 purchase and compares 15-, 20- and 30-year terms, including what the payment leaves out.

Car loan calculator and financing guide

Start with a vehicle price, cash down payment and trade-in. The model finances sales tax using a price-minus-trade-in assumption. The car guide explains a $38,000 purchase, compares three terms and identifies costs to check in a dealer quote.

Build a useful comparison

  1. Record a baseline. Enter an amount, rate and term from a scenario or loan offer. Include the costs the selected calculator supports.
  2. Save it, then change one input. Try a larger down payment or a shorter term while keeping the other assumptions fixed.
  3. Read the trade-off. Compare the monthly payment, total interest and remaining balance. A payment you can afford is one consideration; the full borrowing cost is another.
  4. Reconcile with the lender. These estimates cannot account for every fee, tax rule or contract condition. Use the relevant guide and methodology to find differences.

The calculator above starts in mortgage mode. Switch to Car for vehicle inputs, or follow either guide for a complete example. Saved scenarios stay on this device, and no account is required.

Frequently asked questions

What do these tools calculate?

Monthly payments, total interest, the total of scheduled payments and yearly remaining principal. Mortgage estimates can add tax and insurance; car estimates can include financed sales tax. Neither tool determines loan eligibility or supplies a lender rate.

Are my saved calculations sent to a server?

Loan inputs and saved calculations stay in your browser. You can turn off site analytics through Analytics settings in the footer. The site may display advertising on the calculator guide pages; see Privacy & cookies for details about those services.

Can I use a different currency?

Yes, for display. The selection changes symbols and number formatting, without currency conversion or country-specific lending rules. The worked examples in the guides always use US dollars.

How can I check a result?

Follow a guide’s worked example, then review the formula and calculation assumptions. Compare against a lender’s disclosures before making a borrowing decision. These tools provide estimates, not financial advice.
